In a 17th-century Livonian village, an ominous tension hangs in the air. Several
inhabitants sense an approaching danger, from a frightened young errand boy to a tavern maid accused of witchcraft by the
local pastor. During the ensuing trial, an elderly man proclaims himself a werewolf — not in the classical sense, but as a
figure rooted in Latvian folklore, closer to a wild shaman than a monster.
Brothers Lauris, Raitis, and Marcis Ābele are Riga-based Latvian filmmakers working as a creative trio across directing, cinematography, and art projects. Their international breakthrough came with Castratus the Boar, which won the Grand Prix at the Tampere Short Film Festival in 2015. They later co-created the documentary Baltic Tribes, Last Pagans of Europe. Lauris and Raitis also compose and perform music.
